Westfall Pole Vault delivers again this weekend in the State Championship at the Jesse Owens Center on OSU Campus.
Two National Qualifiers, Two New School Records, and One OHSAA Div II State Champion.
Peyton Proffitt became the first individual state champion in school history today by vaulting her way to the top of the podium with a final height of 12'9", exceeding the 2nd place runner up height by nearly a foot. Moreover she worked her way to the 12'9" height in nearly perfect fashion, only missing a single attempt in the entire competition. The accomplishment breaks her own current school record and puts her as a strong contender at the national level.
Joining Peyton at the National Championship on June 17th in Greensboro, NC will be her fellow senior teammate Tyler Shipley. Tyler cleared 14'10" on Friday in the boys Div II pole vault championship, considered to be one of the the single best divisions in the nation, earning him a new school record and a spot in nationals.
The Mustangs community showed up in full force this weekend at the Jesse Owens Center taking up an entire set of bleachers and overflowing standing room, not to mention the folks back home who reported constant internet refreshes on the live results. Supported by family, coaches, administration, teammates, friends, and the larger pole vault community, this will be a weekend in the Westfall history books hard to top. Congratulations Peyton and Tyler!
