Westfall High School Attendance FAQ’s (Hybrid Model)
We have had many questions regarding attendance. We still have to take attendance and report it to the State of Ohio regardless if your student is all online or on the hybrid schedule. If you still have questions after referring to the FAQ’s please contact Ashley Kelley, Assistant Principal, at ashley.kelley@westfallschools.com or 740-986-2911.
Q: Can my student stay home during in-person days and complete work online?
A: No. If a student is not present at school for his or her in-person days then the student will be counted absent. A parent needs to call the office to let us know the student will not be at school. The office and teachers will not accept emails from students.
Students may still complete their work at home if well enough. Students will still be given the opportunity to make up the work once they return to school.
Q: Does my student have to log in right at 7:30 am on at-home/online days?
A: Yes! First period is considered homeroom and when daily attendance is taken. All students must log on at 7:30 and check-in for attendance. If the student has Study Hall 1st period, they will be e-mailed a link for attendance. Students will need to check-in by 8:10 am. Students should then follow their class schedule for the remainder of the day.
Q: If my student logs on for attendance but does not do any other school work why are they being counted absent?
A: There are several components to counting a student “present.”
The student must log in and answer the attendance question.
The student must participate in a Google Meet if the teacher is having one that day.
The student must complete all work for that class period and submit it.
If all of this is not completed then a student is counted as absent for that class period.
Q: What is the current attendance policy?
A: The current attendance policy can be found in the student handbook on page 10 or can be viewed by clicking the following link: Current Attendance Policy
